Paradise. Imagine for a moment having several projects you wish to accomplish. They all were completed with no interruptions at the end of the day. Wouldn’t that be a little bit of paradise? Sometimes we find ourselves in the middle of a thought, and someone at the door or the phone needs something, Now!!!
I like how Jesus handled an interruption in today’s Gospel. As He was teaching in a house, some friends lowered a paralytic through the roof in front of Jesus. Our Lord saw this as an act of His Father’s Providence. Because He lived in the moment, the Gospel says, “The power of God was with Him.” To the astonishment of the religious authorities, Jesus forgave his sins. Then told the paralytic to pick up his mat and go home. Which he did.
You and I can plan our days all we want, but we can’t control them. Interruptions are always going to happen. How about this thought? Instead of an interruption, someone needing us is an act of God. In God’s Providence, the “power of God is with us” in such moments. Just like it was with Jesus. Welcome an interruption gracefully and with great focus. Don’t be surprised if they say, “We have seen incredible things today.”
Oh yes, for the times we have gotten upset and let the power of God go to waste, check out the times the priest is hearing confession. Jesus will do for you what he did the paralytic.
