When I was playing football as a young kid, I loved when my name was called, “Ricky, go deep.” This past Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had the game in hand in the final minute until the Rams threw a long pass with 15 seconds left in the game. The game was tied, and it put the Rams in position to kick a short field goal, and they did. Go deep won the game for the Rams and shut the door for the Bucs to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.
Jesus wants all of us to go deep in our relationship with Him. The parable of the sower is His call for us to not live on the surface of life with so many distractions. Do we find ourselves reacting to people and situations without much thought or consideration? The seed of Jesus’ Word and guidance isn’t present in distractions. It is discovered in how we encounter people and situations with Jesus.
The good seed of Jesus’ Word to us each day protects us from living on the surface of life where it’s all about me and how I feel. Worries and anxieties about what I cause much tension and stress and overflows into my relationships with people.
I have to go deep every morning with Jesus. That precious time isn’t about what I do or the prayers I pray. It’s all about Who I am with when I pray those prayers and listen to the Word of Jesus. Something strikes me, a word, a line, and I chew on that Word all day. I literally carry Jesus (the Word) with me in all my encounters with others. It’s not a conscious effort but an intention to stay with Jesus all day. It’s like when the love of your life is present to you but is still in your heart. They never leave you.
God deep with Jesus and bear His fruit. Touchdown!!!
