Two of the happiest moments in life have to be a bride and groom’s wedding day and the birth of a child. The joy and total contentment we experience in these graced moments blow us away. I can close my eyes and relive the moment the bishop laid hands on me at my ordination. The joy grew during the first Mass I celebrated. It is made stronger and deeper with every Mass I celebrate. It feels like the first time.
Behind all the exhilarating joy is tenderness and passion that is limitless. I say limitless because when we give ourselves so selflessly to God and people, our minds and hearts open like a canyon we can’t see to the bottom. So the joy is God’s happiness for us to pour all the good we can entertain in any given moment.
God happens in us every time we give of ourselves, so all we want is another’s good. It doesn’t matter what it costs us. I can easily imagine the Fire (Holy Spirit) that helped Jesus endure His sufferings on the cross was the joy we experience every time we love selflessly. When we live for the happiness and well-being of others, we can experience joy all day long, even during a crisis. We endure the pain and suffering to find the joy that awaits us. What a hope!
How many times today/tomorrow will your heart be full of joy? Keep the Fire ablaze.
