Solemnity of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary 2022

FROM DAYDREAMING TO PONDERING THINGS IN OUR HEARTS.
Do you ever catch yourself daydreaming? Our minds are always occupied with something. So many times, we are trying to figure something out. So we create storylines or scenarios of how we think something should be. It helps us arrive at solutions.
Mother Mary did more than daydream about what the angel Gabriel told her that she was going to be the Mother of God. The gospel says she pondered or kept all these things in her heart.
She was often pushed to the edge where she had no strength but God’s to help her: our dear Mother bore Jesus in a manger, and with St. Joseph, she escaped Herod’s threat to kill Jesus. They traveled 120 miles to Egypt. Unfortunately, they mistakenly lost Jesus for three days when he was 12. Indeed she is the Mother of Sorrows.
Mother Mary learned that thinking things through was never enough. She took all these things to her heart, knowing God was with her. And because he was with her, her heart was forever immaculate. She could receive every grace and blessing, every strength she needed to please our Lord in all things.
Fear and worry are replaced with amazement at what God is doing moment by moment in our lives. Mother Mary had an open heart to appreciate what all these things meant to her. Think how the earth opens to receive seed. It does not tell the seed how to grow or what to become. The earth’s only function is to nourish the seed, from a beautiful flower to a fruit tree, what is already within it.
Such is the way Mother Mary received all the events of her life with her Divine Son. We celebrate her Immaculate Heart today and ask her to free us from anything that would keep her Son from growing and maturing in us. May He be free to do what He wills and all the events of our lives.
Let us invite our Mother to ponder with us the events of our lives, so we too will have a heart that will immaculately receive and give birth to Jesus and all the events of our lives.
