So Many Things.
It’s easy to imagine Martha going over her grocery list the night before Jesus came to her and her sister Mary’s house for dinner. So many things to do. I wonder if Mary helped her with the shopping. Something happened between them because she bursts into the living room and interrupts Jesus speaking to her sister. “Tell Mary to help me in the kitchen. I can’t do it all by myself.”
Jesus calmly answers, seeing Mary at his feet, listening, “Mary has chosen the better part.” He didn’t say she did anything wrong cooking in the kitchen. There was something better she could do at that moment.
The Gospel Challenge: We all have choices every day. How do we set our priorities? Do we just let them dictate what we will do that day? Run! Run! Run! Please think of how so many things come at us with no preparation. Are we in the best frame of mind and heart to respond to those surprises? Any stress?
Speaking of surprises, how about taking a quiet moment, ten minutes, with the Lord before the day begins? See yourself, sitting with Mary at His feet. Listen to the Scripture read at Mass that day. (See www.usccb.com/readings) What is he saying to you about those “many things?”
