Bartholomew did the same thing with Jesus when Philip said, “We have found the Messiah.” His immediate response was, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” He already dismissed Jesus in his mind. After his conversion, Bartholomew preached the gospel in the most barbarous countries in the east, going as far as India. But before his conversion, he labeled Jesus without knowing Him.
Underneath the person’s background and culture is an individual with hopes, dreams, and potential yet to be discovered. Getting to know a person takes a lot of listening and time. We will be so much better off if we leave behind judgments about someone we don’t know.
Bartholomew left behind his first impression of Jesus and spent much time getting to know Him. His opinion was not based on what people said but on his encounter with Jesus every day in prayer.
Gospel Challenge:
Jesus saw Bartholomew under the fig tree even when Bartholomew was unaware. Jesus is with us every moment of our lives. Let’s not make the same mistake Bartholomew did about Jesus. Spend some time to get to know Him.
