It’s hard to believe that Christmas is around the corner. I thought of Christmas Eve when I read today’s gospel. The first moment Jesus breathed in this world was from a manger, a food trough.
Then I thought when he died on the cross, he was naked and cried out, “I thirst.” Is it any wonder why Judgment Day will be about how we care for people who are very much like Jesus: hungry, thirsty, naked, and imprisoned?
Jesus isn’t asking us to be born poor, in a manger, suffer thirst, and die naked on a cross. We can’t love that much. We are not God. But we can meet Jesus in someone hungry for food or affection, thirsty for attention, and someone to listen to them and understand them.
Do you know anyone hungry and thirsty for love in your heart? Wow! These people are rich in Christ Jesus. They may not have what the world deems precious, but they are the Presence of Jesus to us.
Let’s take a moment and identify those people. Maybe it is someone we know, even in our family. Perhaps it is a complete stranger we will never meet until we walk through the gates of heaven, please God. I think of all the people who will eat and have a bed to sleep in because of the Catholic Ministry’s Appeal.
Gospel Challenge:
Let the Holy Spirit bring those people to mind now and tomorrow, the next day, and the day after. God will ratify later what we choose now. He will always respect our free will. Judgement Day is today.

Is Judgment Really Like That?
