Before GPS
Often, someone calls who is dying or needs a Sacrament and can’t attend church. I am so thankful for GPS when I get into the car. However, before GPS, finding that house could be difficult. When I got lost, I would ask someone for directions. Sometimes, if the person were driving, they would say, “Follow me.” Was that ever comforting? I didn’t have to slow down to read the street signs.
I thanked God for the person who stopped what they were doing and showed me the way, and they drove me right to the house. And today, I thank God for the person who invented GPS and made it available, even on our cell phones.
“Follow Me.” I can see Jesus in His Jeep approaching me and saying, “Hey friend, you look like you are lost. Do you need some direction to where you are going?” I respond, “Well, that’s funny; I don’t know where I am going. But I do know I want to get out of this mess. You could say that I am lost.”
Sometimes we get lost in life. The neat thing about Jesus is that He has the only GPS in the universe for LIFE. He knows where we are going because He has already been there. So, he can get us there too. Traditionally, we call it eternal life. Yes, life after we die, but also the life of Jesus in us today.
I don’t have to see the house I drive to before getting there. And when I follow Jesus, I can sit back and let Him take the lead. The road He is on is called “Peace.” I know I am following Him when my heart is at peace. Should I get lost again, Jesus said in the Gospel, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.”
Gospel Challenge:
So, pray, my friend, ‘O Jesus, I surrender myself to you (following Jesus); take care of everything.’ It’s an enormous trust, but Jesus is faithful, and he not only knows the way. Jesus is the Way!
