It’s mysterious to me, but sometimes, I hear a voice inside of me telling me to do something. Other times, a thought keeps coming back to me to call somebody, visit somebody, or pray for someone. I am a slow learner, but I have discovered that the Lord Jesus, God’s Word made flesh, speaks to us loud and clear.
Mother Mary’s response to her Son in today’s gospel reminds me of times when His voice inside me tells me to keep my cool. Mother Mary was outside a house while Jesus was inside with his disciples. Someone let him know she was outside, and Jesus seemed to run the risk of insulting her: “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the Word of God and keep it.”
Never hearing her Son’s response as an insult, her heart was filled with joy, knowing that anyone can know Jesus and love Jesus as she does. And like her, hearing His word and believing it is not enough. We must act on it. How? When a thought keeps coming back to you, the Lord is speaking to you to do something, visit someone, forgive, or get involved with a project or ministry. Whatever it is, ACT ON IT.
Gospel Challenge:
As you do, your intimacy will grow with Jesus, just like it did with Mother Mary. Because it will not be you acting alone; Jesus will be acting in you. All things become possible because “God’s Word is alive and active.” (Hebrews 4:12) . Listen and act.
