When I began my studies for the priesthood in England, I met a priest who knew Jesus. Fr. Anthony Meredith had a profound impact on my relationship with God. He wasn’t a scholar who could teach a theological course. He had a presence about him, and I soon discovered that Presence was Christ.
Fr. Anthony taught me how to follow Jesus. Reading this morning’s Gospel reminded me of Fr. Anthony. “Jesus summoned those He wanted, and they came to Him.” This ‘summons’ is not a physical call, but a spiritual one, a deep yearning in your heart to be closer to Jesus. Fr. Anthony was my spiritual guide, leading me to Jesus.
In those formative years of my studies and religious life, the Lord blessed me to notice that summons so I could go to Jesus. Every morning, I still go to Him in the Blessed Sacrament during adoration, and in His Holy Word, I am sharing with you now.
Gospel Challenge:
Do you have someone in your life who is leading you towards Jesus? Sometimes, we may not immediately recognize this call. But rest assured, the Lord will continue to beckon you. If you find yourself repeatedly drawn to something, like reaching out to a friend or participating in a ministry, consider it a potential call from God.
The Lord touches our hearts because He knows how much we will enjoy His “new” way of being with us. Like Jesus wanted the Apostles, He wants you and me to be with Him too.
Love Your Neighbor:
Please join me in praying for all baptized Catholics to be faithful to Jesus in the Holy Mass every weekend. Hail Mary, full of grace…
