Imagine you just got a base hit and are on first base. You take a comfortable lead because you’re thinking about stealing second. Now isn’t the time to daydream. Your full focus is on the pitcher and every move he makes. You’ve studied him well, and you know all his motions. So, your timing must be perfect. If you slip up at all, you’ll be thrown out at first trying to get back to safety.
Staying awake is crucial if you want to achieve your goal. What should our focus be throughout the day? First, consider what you will be doing today. Then, you can hope for the best and see what happens. Sometimes, you might get lucky, and everything works out the way you want. But what if it doesn’t?
Life can be very frustrating sometimes. But Jesus offers us a reliable solution. He says, “Stay awake.” He knows the best way for something to help us and everyone else. His way will bring His goodness into every situation where we look for Him. “My ways are not your ways” (Isaiah 55:9). In His guidance, we find reassurance and calm, knowing that He is always with us.
His Way benefits us in this life and the next. He can see into the future and knows how every choice we make will turn out. Even the most challenging times can be the best for us because they challenge us to greatness and help us become more than we are—bringing the Presence of Christ into the world, even through our struggles. Embrace these challenges as opportunities for growth and empowerment.
Gospel Challenge:
There is no worry or anxiety when we follow Jesus. Ask Him to be with you throughout your day and keep in mind His Presence, recognizing that He is with you in everything you do. In His presence, we find peace and comfort, knowing that He is guiding us. You will steal second base every time.
