Once again, Jesus surprises us. Usually, he heals someone on the spot. But in today’s gospel, with the ten lepers, he tells them to go on their way and to show themselves to the priest.
Amazingly, Jesus healed them on their way. That might not seem surprising until you realize He told them to act as if the healing had already happened. They started walking, their bodies still covered in sores and their limbs falling off.
It’s the same beautiful gift of faith that Jesus asked of Peter when He called him to step out of the boat and walk on water with Him. Faith in Jesus is most effective when there is no evidence to support it. His word is enough.
The joy of God’s love fills our hearts, especially when we feel overwhelmed by our struggles and sorrows. He gently heals us along the way. Even when all we have to offer is our own faults, He lovingly assures us, “Your faith has saved you.”
Gospel Challenge: Let’s rejoice in our nothingness and be grateful, because God will do something extraordinary. And if we need help, pray with Mother Mary, “Let it be done to me according to your Word.”
