The craze for working out and keeping in shape is a huge industry. I remember joining Lifestyles years ago. It didn’t take long to learn that I needed a trainer and a buddy to work out daily. After a three-month recovery from ankle surgery, all I had gained seemed to be gone. It took over a week to get back to my usual form. It surprised me how fast the muscle groups responded.
Getting back in shape took a decision and some determination. Excuses are a dime a dozen. It isn’t much different in our relationship with the Lord. Setbacks in our friendship with Him happen, sometimes unexpectedly. Have you experienced a setback in the practice of your faith? Sometimes we put that warm, inviting Light of Christ under a bushel basket, where it can stay for a long time.
If that happens to you, decide to make Jesus the top priority in your life. Start small with a time for prayer. An app called “Hallow” is a great help, and it’s like working out with a friend to be with Jesus. Jesus tells us in the gospel today, “Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.” We are in communion with everyone around the world who is praying with that app at that time.
Gospel Challenge:
Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, deserving of our care. To nurture this divine presence, reach out to a friend and share your faith walk. Sharing your faith strengthens your spiritual ‘workout’-because, like exercise, it’s most effective when used regularly and together with others.
