As we prepare to leave the Mass and return home, let’s reflect on the possibility of personal change. Having encountered Jesus through Word and Sacrament, will we remain the same? The people in today’s gospel held different views about Jesus’ identity. Some thought he was a prophet, while others saw him as the Christ or the Messiah. But what about us?
Some believed they were more knowledgeable and thought the Messiah would not come from Galilee, but from Bethlehem, David’s hometown. Then, St. John adds that everyone went to their own house. What did they take with them back home?
Think about the soldiers sent to arrest Jesus. They initially intended to capture him, but something changed inside them. How did they feel when they went back home? This shows the transformative power of encountering Jesus.
So, after listening to Jesus throughout this Lent and receiving Him in the Most Holy Communion, will anything be different for us when we return home?
Gospel Challenge: Imagine the influence if we all went home with a renewed dedication and love for Jesus, shown through compassion for everyone, especially those we find difficult. This is the gospel challenge we face.
Please, God, our encounter with Jesus this Lenten season will profoundly affect our love for people in our home.
Love Your Neighbor: Please join me in praying that all baptized Catholics be faithful to Jesus at the Holy Mass every weekend. Hail Mary, full of grace…
