Invite Jesus into Your Boat.
I recall fishing once on a two-seater boat with my dad’s friend, Bud Sepich. While I was talking to him, I suddenly heard nothing. I turned around, and he was gone. It was a strange feeling, and I started to feel a bit scared, not knowing what had happened to him since there was no splash or any sound. Suddenly, he reappeared about waist-high out of the water, gasping for air. He said something had propelled him up from the bottom of the lake, and he believed it was his guardian angel.
In today’s gospel, the disciples were less frightened by the violent storm rocking their boat than by seeing Jesus walk on water. After their initial shock, they invite Jesus into the boat. Once again, He reassures them, saying, “It is I. Do not be afraid.”
We have experienced storms—whether emotional, spiritual, or overwhelming in nature. When fear or worry takes hold, we, like the disciples, cry out, “Get in the boat with us,” and find comfort in Jesus’ presence, which offers hope and reassurance during difficult times.
Something extraordinary happens when they say this: “The boat immediately arrived near the shore to which they were heading.” When we invite Jesus into our lives, especially in challenging moments, faith can transform our situations and bring us peace and clarity.
Gospel Challenge: Jesus offers us safe passage through any storm, but His presence is essential for guiding us safely. Are you currently facing a storm? Invite Jesus into your boat, trusting that with Him, you will find the right course and experience His guiding hand.
