Who Has Flavored Your Life with the Salt of the Lord?

In Jesus’ time, salt was extremely valuable. Did you realize Rome paid their soldiers
with salt? The word “salary” comes from the Latin “sal.” Consider how significant we
must be to Jesus when He says we are His “salt of the earth.” Wow! It encourages me
to strive to live up to His calling. 

Several people have served as the Lord’s salt in my life with God, but one who stands
out is Fr. Anthony Meredith, IC. He was the rector of our community house,
DerrysWood, in England. During those formative years of my priesthood studies, Fr.
Anthony’s relationship with the Lord was a flavor of salt that Jesus used to season my
soul. He was always available when we needed him, pitching in to do the dishes and
assisting with household chores. He truly was one of us.
   
In summary, Fr. Anthony introduced me to Jesus. Whenever I brought him a problem,
he would often say, “We need to pray to find the Lord.” And each time, we would find
Him. This was the first time I learned the importance of surrender. I understood that God
has a plan, and we need to align ourselves with it. Over the years, I have built a strong
trust in Jesus, relying on the foundation that Fr. Anthony established during my
formation.

Who has flavored your life with the salt of the Lord? Do you have someone like Fr.
Anthony in your life? What actions did they take to make Jesus a meaningful presence
for you? Follow their example.  
  
Every morning, I pray that we never lose the flavor of our Lord’s precious salt.
