What Is Your Treasure?

We all have our own kinds of treasures. When I was a kid, my treasure was catching big
fish; we caught many while fishing with my dad. Then, when my mom was preparing
those fish for dinner, my treasure was jumping right in and gobbling them up. Another
treasure was celebrating a big win at a Rays baseball game or a Buccaneers football
game.  
 
Every day, we encounter various treasures—small ones I might call these ‘little
treasures.’ Unlike the invaluable treasure of my relationship with Jesus, I wouldn’t give
up all I own to catch fish or win a game. Still, if I’m not careful, one or two of these
treasures could take the place of Jesus in my heart.   
 
To prevent this, I often remind myself to acknowledge the Lord’s presence at the start of
any task. Having Jesus with me makes it much simpler to stay balanced and avoid
becoming overly excited or discouraged. A calm mind and heart foster clarity, allowing
me to perceive and experience things as they truly are, rather than through my desires.
In this state of awareness, I find the Lord.

Gospel Challenge: 
It doesn’t require much effort to make Jesus your treasure in everything you do—try to
do so consciously throughout the day. Pay attention; you’ll find that life becomes much
more enjoyable.
