Can you imagine how often the scribes, Pharisees, and lawyers heard Jesus call people to turn back to God so they might believe the Gospel? It’s probably just as often as He has gently called you and me to repent and deepen our commitment to Him.
Sometimes, our hearts and minds are so full of how others have treated us that we struggle to believe God would act differently. Let’s open our hearts to His love and grace, trusting His unwavering compassion.
We intellectually recognize how much Jesus cares for sinners and that he sacrificed his life for us. But do we truly grasp his loyalty deep within our hearts, where we live and act every day?
It’s heartbreaking to imagine how Jesus must have felt when the leaders shut their hearts to His mercy and convinced themselves they were righteous before God. The most humbling truth is that we can’t free ourselves from sin on our own, including turning our backs on God and each other.
We lack the power or authority to overcome sin in our lives. Only the Passion and Blood of our Savior can wash away our sins. If it were possible for us to do so, the Father would have allowed the cup of suffering to pass by Jesus.
However, the joy that comes from His mercy outweighs any effort we can make. The joy of the Lord is our strength to overcome any challenge and to please God.
I pray all day, “All I want is for You to be happy with me, Lord.” The Gospel Challenge: May His merciful gaze gently rest upon our souls, filling us with peace. Love Your Neighbor.
