Sabbath Time – Two For One. 

 When I assumed the role of pastor at Blessed Sacrament Church, I made a point to individually remind each staff member, “People are more important than stuff.” Possessions will fade, and our plans, decisions, and achievements will become history. However, each person will remain with us for eternity, a testament to your enduring value.

In today’s gospel, Jesus told a man to stretch out his withered hand. The Pharisees watched him closely to see if he would cured on the Sabbath as they considered it to work. And sure enough, Jesus healed the hand of the man in front of everyone. “Is it right,” he asked, “to do good or evil on the Sabbath?”

For Jesus, healing and doing good on the Sabbath was an expression of His love for God and people. He saw no distinction between loving God and loving people. He prayed throughout the night to be with people throughout the day. His two loves, for God and for people, became one in His heart, uniting us all in a larger purpose.

Gospel Challenge:
“People are more important than our stuff.” Please notice how often we get frustrated when our stuff is interrupted by people. We need some Sabbath time with Jesus to have some healthy Sabbath time with others. Then, we will welcome interruptions even if we must turn to the Lord again on the spot. The Lord loves to get involved when we turn to Him.
