The breakdown of a family in any society can have horrible consequences on the children. Some children will join gangs, and others will become loners. Salvador Romo felt so isolated and alone that on May 24, 2022, he shot and killed 19 children and two teachers in an elementary school in Texas.
The report said. The gunman did not have a father. While this is not the sole reason for Salvador’s rampage, growing up without a father figure is a substantial contributing factor. Without a father figure to protect Salvador Ramos, he had no guidance and discipline a father could give him. It doesn’t justify what he did, but it’s a start to understanding his behavior.
In John’s gospel, Jesus speaks a lot about his Father. At his trial, people accused Jesus of calling God his Father. However, he remained silent because no one would listen anyway.
It’s time we listen. We draw close to God the Father by drawing close to Jesus. Kids who hang out with a gang take on the gang’s characteristics. I am slowly learning that the more I hang out with Jesus in adoration, the more I trust His Father to care for me, our parish, and school. I love it when God’s plan comes together.
Gospel Challenge:
I encourage you to join me in praying to St. Joseph and Mother Mary for all the victims of senseless murders across our country. I pray, too, that the last word shooters hear from our Father in heaven is mercy.
Finally, pray a decade of the Holy Rosary for the soul of our society that is losing any sense of family.
