Jesus Draws Near

I can’t help but share the wonderful news that Jesus continues to walk with us along that Emmaus Road. Every Mass is an encounter with Jesus on that road. Jesus himself drew near and walked with them.

Jesus first celebrated the Liturgy of the Word with the two disciples as they walked down the road. Next, He celebrated the Liturgy of the Eucharist with them when they reached the house, and He broke the bread with them. For brevity, I want to share how we can get in touch with Jesus each time we worship Him in the Holy Eucharist.

Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we often don’t recognize the Real Presence of Jesus in His Word. So much is wrapped in mystery. Likewise, some Catholics don’t believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in His Body and Blood. However, something will help us recognize the Real Presence of Jesus in His Body and Blood.

When Jesus met Cleopas and his friend, He asked, “What were you discussing while walking along the road?” Of course, He knew the answer, but He wanted to hear it from them and listen to their story. That’s how we get in touch with Jesus and stay in touch with Him, telling Him our story.

Gospel Challenge:

Consider what is happening in your life right now. The Lord has been walking with you every step of the way, but you may not recognize Him, as the two disciples didn’t on the road. That’s okay. He understands. But He wants to get to know you as you are now.

Jesus draws near to us as we welcome Him to walk with us moment by moment, sharing our heart of hearts with Him, bringing feelings of peace and trust in His friendship.

The two disciples shared their grief. What are you going to tell Him? When you are personal with Jesus, you will recognize Him in His Real Presence on the altar and in Communion as the disciples did when He broke bread with them. What is going to make your heart burn within you?

At dinner, the disciples begged Jesus, “Stay with us.” Think about it. He has stayed with us for over 2000 years. How blessed we are to be around His dinner table.
