No One Wants To Suffer, But.

We know how it feels when a loved one learns they need a biopsy for a suspicious spot.
We fear the possible suffering they might face. If it is cancer, we also share in their
distress during surgery and chemotherapy.

After the Transfiguration, Jesus tells his three disciples he will suffer, be crucified, and
rise. It’s tempting to focus on the awe of the Transfiguration and wish to stay on the
mountain with Jesus. But they descend into a valley where they face many people with
diseases and ailments.

Jesus had to clarify to His disciples that His healing power was not magic but the result
of great pain and suffering. Isaiah prophesied, “It is by his wounds we are healed”
(Isaiah 53:5). Jesus did not hesitate to demonstrate His greatest love for us through His
Suffering and Passion.

He encourages us to bear our cross daily and demonstrate our love for Him, especially
during tough times. When we carry that cross with love, it becomes a source of healing
and salvation for those who need Jesus’ compassion, particularly people we know and
care about. We are His hands and heart for others.

Gospel Challenge:
Is there a cross you are hesitant to pick up and carry? Pray with Jesus in the Garden of
Gethsemane, “Lord, let this cup pass me by, but let not my will but yours be done” (Luke
22:42).

Love Your Neighbor!
