I can’t help but relate to you the fantastic news that Jesus is still walking down that Emmaus Road with each of us. Every celebration of the Mass is an encounter with Jesus on that road.
Jesus first celebrated the Liturgy of the Word with the two disciples while walking with them down the road. Next, He celebrated the Liturgy of the Eucharist with them when they reached the house, and He broke the Bread with them. For brevity, I want to share how we can get in touch with Jesus every time we worship Him in the Holy Eucharist.
Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we often don’t recognize the Real Presence of Jesus with us in His Word. So much is wrapped in mystery. Likewise, some Catholics don’t believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in His Body and Blood. Something will help us recognize the Real Presence of Jesus in His Body and Blood.
When Jesus met Cleopas and his friend, he asked, “What were you discussing while walking along the road?” Of course, he knew the answer, but He wanted to hear it from them and listen to their story. That’s how we get in touch and stay in touch with Jesus, telling Him our story.
Gospel Challenge:
Consider what is happening in your life right now. The Lord has been walking the whole way with you, but you may not recognize Him like the two disciples didn’t on the road. That’s ok. He understands. But He wants to get to know you as you are now. The two disciples share their grief. What are you going to tell Him? When you are personal with Jesus, He will reveal His Real Presence in your heart and His Sacraments.
