In today’s Gospel, Jesus drove a demon out of a man. He said the man’s house (soul) was swept clean. Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Precious Blood of Jesus purifies our souls. Everything is tidy, as the man’s soul was after Jesus expelled the demon. It is ready for company. But what kind of company?
In the parable, the demon returned to the man’s soul with seven other demons, leaving it worse than before. How often does that same temptation return after the Sacrament of Reconciliation?
We find ourselves back where we started, caught in bursts of anger and impure thoughts, and realizing it’s time for a prayerful encounter. Turn to Jesus and remember that He is present within your soul. He is knocking—open the door. Acknowledge your weakness when a specific temptation arises and give it to Him. Hear Jesus within you say, “I got this.”
The Gospel Challenge: Stay alert throughout the day! When you welcome Jesus, he is the “strong man” from the Gospel who guards all that is precious in your life. STAY WITH JESUS throughout your day.
Rest assured, no harm will come to you or anyone you love under Jesus’ protective gaze. Stay close to Him, and you will be safe.
