What a Companion. Wow!

Since the early church, we have believed that every human being is assigned a
personal guardian angel to protect their physical and spiritual well-being. This gift is
given regardless of a person’s soul’s state, whether or not they are in a state of grace or
have faith in God.

Can you imagine being a constant companion to someone trying every way they can to
cause chaos in a person’s life and society? What an enduring love! We see a pure love
of God in the souls of our Guardian Angels.

In fact, in the fourth century, theologian and Bishop St. Basil said, “Beside each believer
stands an angel as protector and Shepherd leading them to life – and he should know
because he has been known as the “revealer of heavenly mysteries!”

These Guardian Angels are benevolent spirits who “guard” and look after us. The
fantastic thing about guardian angels is that they are always in God’s presence, just as
you and I are in each other’s presence. Think about that.

Right now, and at every moment, they are looking at the face of God and will do only
what pleases Him for us. Guardian angels are constant companions on our journey to
heaven.

They are with us now on earth, and God willing, we will be with them in heaven. I can’t
help but think of their love for us, and I feel ashamed for not giving them the attention
and love they deserve.

Gospel Challenge:
Jesus tells us, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that
their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”

Let us pray for anyone who might bring harm to a child, that their guardian angel will
intervene effectively to protect that child. Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God
loves, commit me here. Ever this day, be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and
guide. Amen.

Love Your Neighbor!
