Can you picture how the young man might have felt when Jesus looked at him with love? It was a love so profound, comparable only to a mother’s love for her child, especially when a nurse gently places her newborn in her arms for the first time. The young man’s genuine desire to do what is right caught Jesus’s attention and warmth, embodying a love that values him deeply.
We recognize his wish for more, even though he kept all commandments. Unfortunately, he wasn’t prepared to give up everything—his entire heart and soul—to Jesus. His strong attachment to his possessions held him back. He found it difficult to fully embrace a life aligned with Jesus’ heart, which required him to “sell what you have and give to the poor.”
Jesus was evidently already in the young man’s heart, as he left sorrowful, indicating he was willing to accept less than he had rather than the “more” Jesus offered.
Reflecting on how strongly Jesus wants to dwell in our hearts prompts us to consider if we’re ready to release resentment or dedicate time to church service. This question calls for sincere personal reflection. What actions must we take to achieve eternal life? It all starts with inner examination.
