We really must give a hand to our firefighters in California. They find themselves in the most dangerous situations. I watched a rattlesnake handler on TV teach firefighters how to handle snakes when they come across them. They wanted to learn the technique of handling snakes, especially venomous ones. They must focus, as a snake can bite quickly.
Driving in fog or a snowstorm demands attention; pileups can happen fast. Even alert drivers risk becoming victims. Safety features like seatbelts help minimize injuries.
In today’s gospel, Jesus called his first disciples, gaining their full attention and clearing the fog from their lives and relationships. He taught them how to handle difficult relationships and situations.
So, what caught their attention? Was it his charisma? Many have charisma. They heard Jesus plead with people to repent and believe the Good News. When they did, they were free to leave their nets and father to follow Jesus.
Gospel Challenge:
Go to Jesus and share with Him any relationships or situations that cause you anxiety or even occasions of sin.
Take heed of Jesus welcome: “This is the time of fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”
Follow Jesus and leave these nets behind.
Love Your Neighbor:
Please join me in praying that all baptized Catholics be faithful to Jesus in the Holy Mass every weekend. Hail Mary, full of grace…
