There are moments in our journey with the Lord when He seems so near. Everything in life runs like a well-oiled machine, and it’s like you can’t miss. Then there are those times when we hardly give Him a thought, and life is so hectic, and we wonder if He is still around.
Is that is what John the Baptist was experiencing, locked up in prison when he told his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you he who is to come or are we to look for another?” Jesus proceeds to answer John by pointing out people whose lives have changed because they came to Him for healing and comfort: “The blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. Every one of their needs was met.
Let’s go back to a moment when life was beating us down. Maybe we are in that moment right now. What keeps us from seeing Him, hearing Him, bearing our soul to Him in the confessional? “Blessed are the poor who have the good news preached to them.” It’s ok to be yourself, just as you are with Jesus. Listen to His words in your heart. Jesus told us, “The healthy do not need a doctor, but the sick do”. (Luke 5:31)
