Fr. Rick’s Gospel Reflection for Friday, 28th Week in Ordinary Time,
October 14, 2022,
Luke 11: 11:47-54 https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/101422.cfm
Please open your Scriptures and read these verses prayerfully.
The pressure of our culture
Jesu tells us in John’s Gospel, “You will have trouble in the world. But be brave,” He says, “I have overcome the world.” Unfortunately, some people in our culture take offense if we speak openly about our faith in Jesus. It’s a taboo to some folks. And their voice is the loudest in the media. As a result, a few vandalize churches, and people in other countries are tortured and martyred for their faith.
Jesus warns us: I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body but can do no more after that. I shall show you whom to fear. Be afraid of the one who, after killing, has the power to cast into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, be afraid of that one.
Notice He calls us friends. Again, Jesus uses strong language to wake us up and make us realize how critical it is for us to have a personal relationship with Him. That relationship is hidden in us, and He wants everyone to know how precious we are to Him.
The last thing He said on this earth before He ascended into heaven was, “Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News.
The Gospel Challenge:
What good news can your share with someone? Some people rely on luck. When something good happens, they say, “I was lucky.” People in a relationship with Jesus proclaim, “Thank you, Lord, for the blessing.” Before you share something, experience how Blessed you are, even count them and share that feeling with the Lord in prayer.
IGNITE THE FIRE.
God bless you, my friends.
