Fr. Rick’s Gospel Reflection for Thursday, 31st Week in Ordinary Time, November 3, 2022
Luke 15:1-10 https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/110322.cfm
Please open your Scriptures and read these verses prayerfully.
What joy! Welcome home!
Have you ever prayed to St. Anthony for something that is lost, and he helped you find it? My sister and I prayed that she would find her wallet that wasn’t in her bag. We removed everything. No wallet. We said the Prayer to St. Anthony, took five steps and the wallet was there.
Wow! How excited we were and grateful. Think of the joy Jesus experiences when someone comes home to His heart. It is something a parent experiences when a child is lost and found.
Joy is the special fruit of the Holy Spirit, or if you like, the experience of being loved by Jesus, personally, Joy is one of the reasons why people drew near to listen to Jesus.
They heard how bad they were, these commoners, tax collectors, and sinners all their lives. “Here is someone who isn’t telling us how bad we are. “I feel when He speaks or whenever I am in His presence that He’s picking me up and putting me on his shoulder. I’m the coin that He sweeps the floor and searches diligently until he finds it.” The people could relate to His words so easily.
This is the beautiful thing about the Gospel, my friends, especially when it is proclaimed at Mass or read prayerfully in the silence of our hearts – we become the characters of Jesus’ parables. It won’t take much for us to pause for a moment and think back when we were so lost or in such a rut that He searched us out and brought us back to His heart.
Gospel Challenge:
Have no fear, my friend. Jesus can’t tolerate the loss of anyone. Jesus is getting on the floor of my heart, looking in every crack and crevice, seeking out where He lost you. What can you do to help Him find you? Get down on the floor with Him and search for the “why” you got lost.
