Sometimes our minds are the boss. We make assumptions about someone and believe them to be true. These storylines become our reality, and there isn’t a stitch of truth in them. The subconscious mind cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imagined, what is right and what is wrong, what is true and what is false. It accepts every story we imagine as real.
The people of God in the Old Testament believed that no one else was God’s people, only them. They got it wrong. They didn’t hear Isaiah talk about welcoming foreigners and ministering to the Lord. Jesus fulfilled that prophesy, healing the Canaanite mother’s daughter, the Roman centurion’s son, and accepting the Samaritan woman at the well.
John the Baptist was a lamp, but Jesus is the light in the lamp that destroys the darkness in all our relationships. Our country is experiencing a division of values. Pointing a finger and thinking, “We are right, and they are wrong,” fuels the division.
Gospel Challenge
Jesus doesn’t see Democrats and Republicans or define a person by their sexual identity, and he is bigger than discrimination. He only sees people, all people whom He loves and saves. “Lord, I am sorry for assumptions I believe to be true about anyone. Only you are the Truth that sets me free.”
