Relief From What?

Mother Mary and St. Joseph’s humble offering of two Turtledoves highlights the power of humility. Their trust and surrender, despite being seen as poor, invite us to feel encouraged and confident in our own humility before God.

But one person did notice. His name was Simeon, a righteous prophet who, through God’s gift, knew that his Mother would bear great sorrow for her Son. His prophecy reminds us that divine love and hope can shine through even the darkest moments,  inspiring us to trust in God’s plan for us.

Mother Mary and Jesus experienced on Calvary the total darkness that blinds all humanity from the love of God. “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me ‘in the souls of family life, our nation.’ “ How can we recognize and confront our own moments of darkness today, trusting that divine love, like that on Calvary, can overcome even our deepest struggles?

Let us pray that we will not be like the rest of the crowd on the day of Jesus’ Presentation, taking no notice of the Light that shines in our darkness, of the divine Love that overcomes our dislike or hate for someone.

Simeon was waiting for the consolation of Israel. What relief am I waiting for in Christ Jesus?
