You Are the Church!

Recently, one of our parishioners visited another parish out of town. She brought back a prayer that they recite at the end of mass.

This is my church.

It is composed of people just like me.

It will be friendly if I am friendly.

It will do a great work if I work.

It will make generous gifts if I am generous.

It will bring others into its fellowship if I bring them.

Its seats will be filled if I fill them.

It will be a church of loyalty and love, of faith and service

If I, who make it what it is, am filled with these.

Therefore, with God’s help, I dedicate myself to the task of being

All these things I want my church to be.

The name of the person who wrote this little piece has been lost but its truth remains. It reminds us that a church is not a building or a single person. A church is made up of the Christians who belong to it. Each member has a responsibility to serve Christ in making the church all that it can and should be. Jesus Christ has already purchased the Church with His blood. It is up to us, His followers, to make sure that our church is what the word of God tells us it should be.

It would be wonderful if everyone at Blessed Sacrament read, prayed and discerned the message of this prayer. If everyone made a commitment to better the Body of Christ.; imagine what our parish could accomplish if we allowed the Holy Spirit to use each of us as His instrument of Mercy, Grace, and Love.

Just a thought!
