I grew up a Cub fan living in Peoria, IL. After Seminary and Ordination, I was assigned to Galesburg, IL. And low and behold, many of my friends were St. Louis Cardinal fans. Yes, you guessed it, I became a Cardinal fan. My sister in St. Louis loved it. The rest of the family still loved me. Whew. LOL
Changing our minds are a part of life. The father in today’s gospel had two sons. He asked the first son to go and work in his vineyard, and he said “Yes” but didn’t do it. Then he asked his second son, who said, “No,” but changed his mind and went to work in his father’s vineyard.
I wonder what the second son was doing. Hanging out with his friends? Taking a nap? Probably what he decided had nothing to do with dad. And a second question, what did he lose out on that the first son enjoyed with his father? Dad was the landowner, and everything he owned was good, and his sons inherited everything they were fit to manage.
Which son am I when it comes to doing what God asks of me?
