What Do You Consider Worthwhile?

Some things you hear strike you deeply and stay with you. Father Eric Doyle taught us the Theology of Grace in seminary. Our final was an oral exam. When I sat before him, he held my hands, looked into my eyes, and said, “Everything is grace.” I never forgot it.

Then, still looking in my eyes, he said, “The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is of supereminent importance.” That is big time with the Lord. Life in this world and the next is all about relationships. That’s what I got from Father Eric Doyle’s class and final exam.

Our busy lives can make us forget how deeply valuable relationships with the Lord and others are. We often focus on doing things for them but may not spend enough time being present or truly getting to know them. Remember, these relationships are truly meaningful and worth nurturing. 

John the Baptist stated, “No one can receive anything except what is given him from heaven.” Our relationships are all we take to heaven. Grace is everything, and love—the Holy Spirit—for God and others, surpasses all. This love can transform, heal, and deepen our connection to God and each other.

God’s love is an action, not just emotion. Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick. Simple acts of love from heaven can make a big difference. A cup of cold water means everything to Jesus. These acts of love are always within our reach and can inspire hope that even small gestures have great impact.

Gospel Challenge:

How many will receive a gift from heaven through you today? Everyone, because this gift already resides within you. Let it shine all day and into the night!
