The Sacrament of Baptism immerses us in the Life of God. So too, the Baptism of Jesus immersed God even more into our lives and experiences. He took on our humanity in His mother’s womb and our sinfulness in His baptism by John.
Up to the moment Jesus stepped into that water to be baptized, He was safe and secure. No one knew His divine origin. Then it all happened. He got involved. And the Father in Heaven couldn’t keep quiet. He is so excited that He hollers for everyone to hear, “This is my Son. Watch Him. Stay with Him. Listen to Him”
People did get so close that they wouldn’t leave him alone, and he couldn’t go off and pray or rest. They would follow him across a lake after He fed them. Jesus got very tired, and in the end, it cost Him everything. We never have to fear bringing to Jesus anything on our conscience or any trouble that burdens our hearts. Like the people in Jesus’ lifetime, we stay close to Jesus and draw near to him whenever we bear our souls to Him.
Gospel Challenge:
Let us allow Him to carry us and all that concerns us, and he will serve us well. Let Jesus immerse Himself into our lives as He immersed Himself into those waters of the Jordon. It pleases the Father that His beloved Son can serve us so he can save us.
