I remember hearing on the news of a mother who tried running into her burning home to rescue her baby. The Firemen stopped her as she was already coughing from smoke inhalation. This mother’s strength to risk her life for her child is more than heroic. It is sacrificial, ready to lay down her life for her child.
Can you imagine Mother Mary standing at the feet of her Divine Son, looking up at Him on the Cross? How did she feel when her immaculate heart was ripped apart by the sword that pierced her Son’s heart? So consider Jesus, hanging from nails in His hands and feet, thinking only of the comfort and strength His Mother will be with John, His beloved disciple. We are John, and the Church is John, His beloved disciple.
Gospel Challenge:
Whatever difficulty or pain you are experiencing, Mother Mary sees you as she looks up at Her Son, Jesus, on the Cross. You are not alone. You have the comfort and strength of Mother’s love in all your pain and suffering. Thank her for saying “Yes” to Angel Gabriel to be the mother of the Most High. Take a moment to thank her for saying “Yes” to being your mother when she stands under the Cross of her Son and the Cross you are carrying.
