YOU LACK ONE THING.
Mark 10:17-30
Please open your Scriptures and read these verses prayerfully.
The rich young man approached Jesus. He had the world by the tail. But he wanted more. He was lacking one thing. He couldn’t find it until he met Jesus. He was a good man. He kept all the commandments. And then he met his challenge. "Go sell all you have," Jesus said, "give it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."
Here is a modern-day parable to think about. A college baseball player went to Jesus and asked, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus replied, "Go to the local playground and help set up an after-school program for kids who are poor or who are at risk." The baseball star’s face fell, and he went away sad. His only focus in life was making the majors.
The Gospel Challenge: Remember when the man’s eyes fell on Jesus. He met his More that would give him everything his heart could desire in this world of the next. When he took his eyes off of Jesus, his eyes fell on his wealth, and he wanted much less. Hence his sad walk away from Jesus.
Jesus told the rich young man he was lacking "one thing." When Jesus asked the rich man to give away all he had, he took it as his wealth, something he put all his trust in. What would that "one thing" be for you? Identify in your heart that "one thing." Give it away in money or in service. When you do, your heart will be free to follow Jesus. Then, all "things" will be possible for you.
