Getting proper rest is necessary for a healthy lifestyle. It takes a few days to recover when we don’t get our quota. Another factor about sleep is that we are utterly oblivious to what is happening around us when we are out like a light.
It would appear that Jesus was a heavy sleeper. The storm that tossed the boat and the waves crashing in on their boat didn’t wake Him. But notice what did bring Jesus out of his slumber. It was the cry of His disciples, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
Does Jesus appear to be sleeping during the storms we experience in life? Or are we asleep and unaware of Jesus until the storms rock our boat? Who is sleeping? Jesus is shocked that the disciples are terrified because of the storm. It’s like he’s saying, ‘Were you not aware of my presence with you morning, noon, and night every day? It alarms me. If you were with Me as I am with you, the storm you are now experiencing would be child’s play.’
Gospel Challenge:
“I am always with you. I will never leave your side. You are always in my heart. So, stay with me, do not be afraid, but believe,” O Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything.
