The Lord Jesus is incredible and never ceases to amaze me, filling my heart with wonder. There is a vast difference between when I pray and when I don’t pray before going into a difficult meeting with someone. It could be anointing someone sick, someone carrying a giant cross or even something I did that needs correction.
More than saying prayers, I welcome the presence of the Lord to be with me. It can take several minutes or a few seconds. I could be sitting in the Chapel or driving my car, knowing Jesus is with me. When I don’t take precious time with the Lord, my mind wanders, and I must admit I can be a bit nervous, wanting to ensure you do a good job. It’s all about me. However, I am more focused on the person; I pray first and can easily empathize with them.
Jesus prayed the whole night in prayer before he chose his 12 disciples. Why did he have to pray? After all, Jesus is God. Perhaps He is setting an example for us, letting us know how important it was for Him to be with His Father when he chose his disciples.
Gospel Challenge:
Is there something important you have to do? Go to the presence of the Lord in your heart. Don’t use words or even thoughts. The intention and choice to be with Jesus are enough.
When thoughts come, let them go. Focusing on Jesus in prayer will prepare you to focus more easily on someone or a task.
