A priest hears many stories, some happy and some sad. My heart goes out to someone who lost a mother or a father in their early life. Family is so important in our upbringing and throughout our lives.
God’s family is no different. Jesus wants us to hear deep within our hearts, “The Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me.” Experiencing His Father’s love and care for us cost Jesus everything.
He was accused at His trial of calling God His Father. Yet, he stood up for us so much that He remained silent because no one would listen anyway.
It’s time we listened. The only way to draw near to God the Father is by drawing near to His Son. I am slowly learning that the more I hang out with Jesus in Adoration and welcome His Presence and help during the day, the more I trust His Father to care for me and our parish and school.
Jesus does more than open our hearts to His Father’s love. He gives us His own Mother, Mary. Remember His words on the Cross to His Mom, “Woman, behold your son.” And then to his disciple John, “Behold your Mother.” Jesus’ family would not be complete without us.
Blessed Rosmini, founder of our Institute of Charity, wrote:
“Since Jesus cannot deny anything to Mary, who is His Mother, and since Mary cannot deny anything to us, who are her children, who can fail to see that, if we were truly Mary’s children, we would want for nothing and we would have all things?”
