I can’t help but relate to you the fantastic news that Jesus is still walking down Emmaus Road with each of us. Every celebration of the Mass is an encounter with Jesus on that road.
Jesus first celebrated the Liturgy of the Word with the two disciples while walking with them down the Emmaus Road. Next, He celebrated the Liturgy of the Eucharist with them when they reached the house, and He broke bread with them. For brevity, I want to share how we can get in touch with Jesus every time we worship Him in the Holy Eucharist.
The early Fathers of the Church often said, “When the Liturgy of the Word is proclaimed in the Eucharist, Christ is as present in the proclamation as He is in the species on the altar. Therefore, I want to share with you something that helps me recognize the Real Presence of Christ in His Word and Sacrament.
When Jesus met Cleopas and his friend, he asked, “What were you discussing while walking along the road?” Of course, he knew the answer, but He wanted to hear it from them and listen to their story. That’s how we get in touch and stay in touch with Jesus, telling Him our story.
Before we hear His Word, we must share with Him what is pressingl right now.
Gospel Challenge:
Consider what is happening in your life right now. The Lord has been walking the whole way with you, but you may not recognize Him like the two disciples on the road. That’s ok. He understands.
But He wants to get to know you as you are now. The two disciples shared their grief. What are you going to tell Him? When you are personal with Jesus, He will reveal His Real Presence.
