It’s important to remember that we’re not alone in our struggles. Many who are serious about their relationship with God occasionally seek out a spiritual director. A common challenge we all face is doubt about our faith in God. We may not like these doubts, but they are a natural part of our journey.
Think of an onion. You peel the first layer, then a second layer, and another after that. Similarly, in our relationships with people or with God, what was once exciting may lose its initial thrill. However, as we peel back the layers of our faith, we discover deeper and more profound aspects of our relationship with God.
Nothing is wrong in the relationship. Our hearts call us to more profound and greater trust in each other; as we change, we must get to know each other again. The people of Jesus’ hometown faced this challenge. They knew Him as a child and as the son of Joseph and Mary. “Where did he get all this?” they wondered. How can he teach as a Rabbi, and what about these miracles?
Gospel Challenge: Just as Jesus called the people of Nazareth, He calls each of us to abandon ourselves into His care. It takes tremendous trust to open our hearts and close our eyes, allowing the Lord to take the lead. In this trust, we find reassurance and security in our faith.
When something is pressing on you, and you feel the need to act, remember the power of prayer. ‘Lord Jesus, I surrender myself to you. Take care of everything.’ This simple prayer connects us to God and empowers us to trust in His plan, leading us to the blessings of heaven.
