The craze for working out and keeping in shape is a huge industry. I remember joining Lifestyles years ago. It didn’t take long to learn that I needed a trainer and a buddy to work out daily. Over the last three months, all that I gained seemed to be gone following surgery on my foot. It took a little over a week to get back to my usual form. It surprised me how fast the muscle groups responded.
Getting back In shape took a decision and some determination. Excuses are a dime a dozen. It isn’t much different in our relationship with the Lord. Setbacks in our friendship with Him happen, sometimes unexpectedly. Have you experienced a setback in the practice of your faith? Sometimes we put that warm, inviting Light of Christ under a bushel basket, and it can stay there for a long time.
If that happens to you, decide that Jesus will have top priority in your life. Start small with a time for prayer. An app called “Hallow” is a great help. It’s like working out with a friend to be with Jesus. Jesus tells us in the gospel today, “Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.”
Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. They deserve our attention and care. But the Holy Spirit who brings us into the presence of Jesus remains hidden inside us. If it seems like a difficult task to know what to do. Don’t give up. Call a friend to see how they manage their life with the Lord. I am sure they would be happy to share their “walk” with the Lord. That will be your first workout. Like exercise, you have to use it or lose it.
