A person creating a beautiful painting wants us to appreciate it fully. However, religious images often depict familiar stories from the Gospels or the lives of saints. If we’re unfamiliar with the scene or the saint, the painter might feel disappointed because we miss the whole meaning.
Like there’s a story behind each picture, every parable Jesus shares also holds a special story—our story. Each day, Jesus is gently writing a new chapter in our lives. The only question is, will we hand over the brush to Him?
If we hold the brush and paint what we like, all anyone sees is paint smeared on a canvas. It needs more meaning and purpose. We will constantly change it to fit our immediate pleasures. We would be like those Jesus talked about, who “look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand (his parables).”Understanding his parables is crucial for us to see and listen truly.
