Thank God for His Good Shepherds

The heart of Jesus is so big. I experienced this during my recovery from ankle replacement surgery. The surgeon told me to elevate my foot for three months. After I got home, I can’t tell you how much it meant when someone stopped by to see how I was doing. Their presence and care made the three-month wait so much easier.

My staff was incredible, and many people reached out to us via text and phone calls. I grew to appreciate that a person’s presence means much more than anything they could do for you.

Jesus’ heart grew in mine during each of those visits, phone calls, cards, and texts. It made me aware that, whatever the sacrifice, how I feel doesn’t matter when someone is sick and needs a visit. Whether I know them well or not, they are like sheep without a shepherd.  They want to be with Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and we are all his shepherds.

Gospel Challenge:

Jesus said in today’s gospel, “The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few.” Your actions can make a huge difference. Perhaps you know someone who needs a shepherd. You can be that shepherd. You can make a huge difference in a person’s recovery, whatever their suffering may be.
