Have you ever had days when everything goes smoothly? A day like that is a joy. But there are also days when everything seems to go wrong. I feel embarrassed when I get upset over small things. I need to remember how many people are suffering through terrible tragedies. I am truly blessed.
We celebrate the Feast of St. Luke, who wrote the Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. God called him to be an apostle, to bring the Good News to the ends of the earth. Guess what? So are we. Really? Yes, indeed, it is true.
How do we become apostles? It’s simple. We understand that Jesus alone is Lord over everything in our lives, including all our frustrations. We intentionally place our trust in Jesus, only Jesus. When we step out like lambs among wolves and declare our faith in Jesus through words and actions, we have no fear and trust that He will speak through us.
When we carry no money bag, sack, or sandals, we trust that Jesus will provide everything without fail. When we don’t greet anyone along the way, we are so focused on Jesus that we want nothing else to distract us.
The Gospel Challenge:
When challenges come our way, we look inward and find the peace of Jesus within us. I think of His Peace as the blue sky that’s always present. However, many clouds may pass by; we know Jesus is like the blue sky, always with us.
Call on Jesus during moments of frustration. They are your gateway to heaven’s blessings for you and everyone you serve as an apostle.
The feast day for St. Luke the Evangelist is October 18. He is celebrated on this date in both the Western and Eastern Christian traditions.
St. Luke is one of the four authors of the Gospels, and is the author of the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. A companion of St. Paul, St. Luke is the patron saint of doctors and artists.
The feast day is a time to remember his life, contributions, and legacy as an evangelist, physician, and companion of St. Paul.
