HUMILITY IS THE DOORWAY TO GOD’S HEART. QUEENSHIP OF MARY.
There was a phrase in the Michael Jordan era, “I want to be like Mike.” It was in commercials and could be heard in everyday conversation, and it is a catchy phrase. We can admire someone who has excelled in their given talent or ability.
However, there is someone who has excelled in the eyes of God, and she did it with little effort on her part. Instead, she stated, “The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.” How does that work? She was so aware of the Lord in her life that the only good she wanted was what God could give her. Nothing else mattered to Mother Mary.
Jesus had her in his heart when he said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.” Her loneliness opened her heart to possess what no fortune, fame, or power could rule buy, eternal life with her Son forever in heaven.
She was last in the eyes of the world but was always first in her Son’s heart. We know that we can be first in His heart, too, when He’s first in our hearts. How different from the scribes and Pharisees who looked down on everyone and made their importance felt! We can learn from them that pride closes the door of our hearts to anyone’s entrance. Humility is the welcome mat where we can let our hair down and take off our shoes and where formalities are left outside.
Be humble with God and other people. It is the quickest way to deep and lasting friendships. “Mary, Queen of Heaven, pray for us.”
